Incendies
Canada 2011, 130 min, drama.
Director: Denis Villeneuve
French with English subtitles

A Quebec sister and brother (twins) receive enigmatic instructions in their late mother’s will. They must return to their ancestral home (in an unnamed Middle Eastern country) to find the father they believed to be dead, and a brother they never knew they had, and deliver to them individual sealed envelopes. Visiting the old country the siblings uncover a shattering family secret. The themes of Incendies are primal, the emotions powerful, and the film as a whole, cathartic.
Based on the play by Wajdi Mouawad: Scorched.
