The Good, the Bad, the Weird
Korea 2010. 127min. Action/comedy. Director: Kim Jee-Woon. Korean with English subtitles.

As the Korean peninsula falls into the hands of Japanese imperialists (1930s), Koreans seek refuge in the vast wilderness of Manchuria. A mysterious bounty hunter (“The Good”), a cold-blooded hitman (“The Bad”), and a wily thief (“The Weird”) vie for an elusive map that could lead them to a buried treasure from the Qing Dynasty.
This giddy mashup of Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, George Lucas’ Star Wars, and Spielberg’s Indiana Jones is a guns-ablazing, widescreen Korean spectacle, packed with action, politics, and off-centre humour.
