Micmacs
France, 2009, 105 minutes, Comedy
Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet
French with English subtitles.
After a long-awaited absence from comedy, Jean-Pierre Jeunet delivers
the follow-up to his much-loved Amélie. Many of the same elements are
present — quirky humour, the imaginative story, colourful characters,
all delivered in Jeunet’s vivid visual style.
Micmacs is the tale of
Bazil, an orphan who wants to seek revenge on the weapons manufacturers who
produced the tools that injured him and killed his father. This task seems
impossible until Bazil encounters a band of misfits who
welcome him and his quest with open arms. Together they come up with an outrageous
plan and the slapstick comedy that ensues is not to be missed. Nominated for
three César awards.
