Fugitive Pieces
Canada, 2007. 105 min.
Director: Jeremy
Podeswa
To live with ghosts requires solitude.
Beautifully adapted from Anne Michael's award-winning novel, Fugitive
Pieces is a deeply moving tale of grief, redemption and the burden of memory.
As a boy
in Poland, Jakob (Stephen Dillane) must cope with the Nazi murder of his family
and the disappearance of his beloved sister, Bella (Nina Dobrev). Rescued
by a kindly Greek archeologist, Jakob eventually emigrates to Canada and begins
a new life as a writer. Still, nothing - his writing, his marriage - can
save Jakob from crippling feelings of guilt and loss. Only by coming to
terms with his past will he finally be able to embrace the present.
