Prisoner of Paradise is the startling true story of Kurt Gerron, a well known and beloved German-Jewish actor, director and cabaret star in Berlin in the 1920’s and ’30’s. Gerron co-starred with the legendary Marlene Dietrich in the film classic The Blue Angel and sang Mack The Knife in the original production of Threepenny Opera. This film follows Gerron’s remarkable odyssey through the 30’s and into the 40’s, culminating in his capture and internment in a concentration camp in 1944, where he was ordered to write and direct a pro-Nazi propaganda film. Gerron’s experience provides a unique perspective on the Nazi era.
